A Heart Issue
Smith Wigglesworth was a mighty man of God living in the last century who loved and served God with all his heart, soul and strength. He was a true worshipper of God and led many people to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and it was recorded he raised at least twenty-two people from the dead. He said something profound, “If there is anything in you that likes to be seen and heard, it will have to die, for Jesus must have all the glory in a body. It is not possible for you and God to dwell in the same body in fullness.”
Your motive for singing and or playing a musical instrument in front of people should never be to attract attention to yourself, but to direct all the attention to Jesus Christ. The goal of your music should always be to create an atmosphere of worship that ushers God’s people into His glorious presence. But how can you as a Christian vocalist or musician avoid the carnal motives of the world, where receiving praise of men is so tempting? Let’s find out.
Besides daily renewing your mind by meditating on God's word and daily praying in tongues to experience freedom from sin, a master key to you living a life void of pride and selfish ambition is to be further cleansed of all unrighteousness by the blood of Jesus and the fire of God. 1 John 1:7 says, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." And 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Hear the testimony of Smith Wigglesworth, a mighty man of God who later raised several people from the dead after receiving the Holy Ghost baptism of fire:
“The fire fell. It was a wonderful time as I was there with God alone. He bathed me in power. I was conscious of the cleansing of the precious Blood, and I cried out: “Clean! Clean! Clean!” I was filled with the joy of the consciousness of the cleansing. I was given a vision in which I saw the Lord Jesus Christ. I beheld the empty cross, and I saw Him exalted at the right hand of God the Father. I could speak no longer in English but I began to praise Him in other tongues as the Spirit of God gave me utterance. I knew then, although I might have received anointings previously, that now, at last, I had received the real baptism in the Holy Ghost as they received on the day of Pentecost.”
Acts 2:1-4 describes the same experience Smith Wigglesworth received: “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
This mighty baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire is what you want and what you need to be cleansed of all unrighteousness. Once baptized with this mighty fire of God, you will never be the same. Your music will be motivated by love and not by the selfish ambitions of the world. Hunger and thirst for this baptism of fire. Simply ask God the Father in Jesus’ name according to John 16:23 to baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire. Then according to Mark 11:24 believe God heard your prayer and granted your petition. Then daily thank God for the manifestation of the mighty baptism of the Holy Ghost and with fire.
Your baptism may take place immediately or you might have to wait. But it will come. The key is to believe you have your prayer answered and you already have the baptism. That’s faith. In other words, your faith says you’ve got it, even though you can’t see it or feel it. Faith says I have received this baptism of fire. Doubt says I’m believing one day I will have it. Faith is always past tense, meaning, “I’ve got it.” Doubt is in the future, meaning, “I don’t have it yet.” Stay in faith. Believe you have it even before you can feel it. God bless you as the mighty baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire cleanses you of all unrighteousness allowing you to usher people into the holy presence of God.
